about

Bonsai is an East Asian art form that uses the cultivation technique of wrapping a wire around the branches of a tree to bend and reposition the branches and set them in a news shape. In this way, the pressure, over time, is used to create something new.

This is similar to how God forms his likeness in us--He often uses the trials and hard things of life to shape us into the image and likeness of His Son.

...a bruised reed he will not break,
and a faintly burning wick he will not quench (Isaiah 42:3)

lyrics

This feels as heavy as an opiate
The unexpected on the punching end of ropa-dope inside the ring
To cope with it we focus in, like -- what is it that I did like
Did I sin like--for the seventy-seventh billionth time and is that why I feel like
I’m fractured--it’s possible that pressures just attached to the fact that God
Is merciful to bend and not to snap you
Cuz we get comfortable inside our lane and start relaxin’
Forgetting’ that our city here is perishing, with all its everything
Rush of adrenaline--we stress about the taxes
The pressure, pain and conflict, anxieties in all varieties
impiety--evil and all its axis
The bumpy roads, sad days, bad dreams, and scattered ashes
Actually aren’t accidents--though fiery and really hard
it’s really God revealing that He’s really all, we really need
And Jesus bore what broke Him so we really are
Just following his likeness in this life until we put it on

I know it’s heavy -- like the waves must’ve broken
you feel everything is weighed on you
We know everything is grace on you only
That’s just how He writes His name on you

Deep breaths, breath in, take 3— Take these
tough days and temptations that won’t leave, now place these
At foot of the cross--now look at the Lord
look what it cost, Look what He bought Now look at it all in light eternity
Look at your past (You what it coulda been) look at his hand, Lovin’ you
holdin’ you, keepin’ you, moldin’ you--Now it look at it all--Isn’t it God?
Isn’t it God? Isn’t God? Isn’t all just--we’re not made for this (Echo)
Isn’t it all just takin’ sufferin’ to shape us into what we’re made to be...

I know it’s heavy -- like the waves must’ve broken
you feel everything is weighed on you
We know everything is grace on you only
That’s just how He writes His name on you
